WHAT IS IELTS?

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English proficiency across the globe. Conducting 1.9 million tests in 2012, IELTS is the world’s most popular high stakes English test for work, study and migration.

The IELTS exam is given around the world. The IELTS test assesses the language level needed to work or study in a country where English is spoken. IELTS is the only major English language test which assess your English communication skills through a face-to-face interview; providing the most effective and natural way of testing your English conversation skills. It is the preferred test of English for students intending to study in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and, increasingly, the USA.

Close to 7000 organisations around the world trust and recognize IELTS as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation.

The IELTS test is now available through more than 800 locations in 130 countries, including convenient locations across India. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

IELTS is the pioneer of English language testing across all four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and continues to set the standard for English language testing today.

IELTS is available in two test formats: The Academic Module and the General Training Module.

The Academic Module is designed for students who want to follow an academic course at university or other higher education institutions.

The General Training Module is more suitable for people who want to live or work in an English-speaking country or for students who want to study at secondary school level or enrol in non-academic training courses.

All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking modules but different Reading and Writing modules. The scoring system is based on band where one has to achieve a level of score to show the compatibility with English language.

Eligible Age: IELTS is made available worldwide to all persons, regardless of age, gender, race, nationality or religion but it is not recommended to persons under 16 years of age.
